Frequently Asked Questions

+ JOINING THE CLUB

BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS

Please come along to trials, which are usually held at the start of March. Details will be posted on our Events page. Students at the University of Auckland can also find us at the O-Week Clubs Expo. Registration links can also be found here.

DURING THE SEASON

For senior players, please contact secretary@auhc.org. For youth and juniors, please email youth@auhc.org and juniors@auhc.org respectively. We will try our best to place you in a team, but priority will be given to those who have already signed up.

NON-STUDENTS/STUDENT MEMBERS

You do not need to be a student, or a student at the University of Auckland to play for the club - we are open to everyone. Student members are eligible for discounts, and University of Auckland students are eligible to represent the University at tertiary hockey tournaments.

OVERSEAS PLAYERS

We welcome overseas players who wish to play hockey in Auckland. However, you will need a statement from your previous club secretary indicating that you do not have outstanding obligations to your previous club. We are generally unable to assist with accommodation, but please contact secretary@auhc.org if you have any queries.

TRIALS

Placement in teams is based on attendance and performance at trials, which are usually held in Feb-Mar. We have teams which cater for all skill levels. There may be opportunities to play into higher teams during the season, at the coaches discretion.

+ VOLUNTEERING

CLUB COMMITTEE, COACHING, TEAM MANAGEMENT

Please contact secretary@auhc.org if you are interested in helping out on the club committee, or as a coach or team manager. There are a range of roles available and we are always interested in bringing new volunteers onboard. The success of the club is not possible without the assistance of our dedicated volunteers. University of Auckland students may also be eligible for the Leadership and Service Award programme. Please check the link for more information.

+ UMPIRING

CLUB UMPIRES

All Premier and Reserve and some Division matches are umpired by officials from the Auckland Hockey Umpires Association. For games without an AHUA umpire, teams will be assigned an umpiring duty each week. Teams will only be expected to umpire lower grade games. Please email umpires.officer@auhc.org if you are interested in umpiring additional club games.

AUCKLAND HOCKEY UMPIRES ASSOCIATION

The Auckland Hockey Umpires Association offers formal training courses for club umpires. This is the starting point for anyone interested in becoming a certified umpire. Official umpires are compensated for their time and expertise. Please contact the club if you are interested in joining the AHUA.
