Applications of interest: Premier Coaches

Due to a change in circumstances we are on the look out for head coaches for our Premier Men's and Women's teams.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven individual for each team who is willing to work with developing players to build our premier squads. There are assistant coaches in place to support these roles.

These roles involve a commitment of 2 trainings and 1 game per week from March-August and are paid positions. Job description is attached. Please direct applications to president@auhc.org, and any queries about the role to secretary@auhc.org.

Position Description

Job Title: Premier Team Coach
Reports To: AUHC Club Committee, AUHC Advisory Board
Purpose: To coach and develop the AUHC Premier teams with the goal of competing at a high standard within the Auckland Hockey competition.

Key Relationships:

  • AUHC Advisory Board

  • AUHC Club Committee

  • AUHC coaches

  • AUHC players

  • Auckland Hockey Association stakeholders – umpires, technical officials, administration staff

Qualifications (not mandatory, but may be useful):

  • High performance coaching background

  • Teaching background

Skills and Requirements:

  • Professional and articulate with superior communication skills and the ability to deal with multiple tasks concurrently.

  • Knowledge of learning styles to facilitate effective coach and player development.

  • Strong organisational and time management skills.

  • Administration skills and computer literacy (analysis software).

  • Experience in high performance environments.

  • Understanding of the requirements of hockey and player development at all ages and abilities.

  • A strong work ethic is essential as is the ability to develop sound relationships with AUHC members, coaches and supporters.

Responsibilities:

  1. Coaching – elite

    • Contribute to AUHC talent identification, rankings and team selection protocols to ensure the very best players are selected into the Premier teams.

    • Coach, motivate and inspire Premier teams to optimise performance.

    • Undertake analysis and where appropriate, lead social and culture events for the team.

  2. Coaching – wider club

    • Assist with delivery of coaching clinics for junior and youth players by linking coaches and players with the junior and youth teams.

    • Identify opportunities for coach development and communicate them to relevant club coaches.

Time Required:

7.5 hours per week

Weekly breakdown (approximate only):

  • 2.5 hours for training sessions (2 per week)

  • 3 hours for games (1 per week)

  • 2 hours for preparation/administration

Plus 4 x 1 hr sessions for junior clinics distributed over the course of the season.
