Auckland University Hockey Club would like to extend our condolences to the family of John Harvey who passed away this morning. Below is a message from the University Old Boys (Passmasters), of which he was a founding member:

It is with much sadness that I inform you that we lost a great club stalwart, John Harvey in the early hours of this morning, following a heart attack.
John was one of the original core group who in 1970 set up University Old Boys hockey Club(now Pass masters).
Initially he was a regular player for many seasons and has remained an enthusiastic supporter  of the club.
John was also the generous donator of the fine greenstone trophy which is awarded annually to the most improved player in the University Premier mens team.
The club extends its sincere condolences to Carolyn, and the family.

To remind everyone of the long history of the club, here is a team photo of the 1911 Senior Team. Winners of the Auckland Hockey Association Championship.

The text on the left reads "Matches played 12. Won 11. Drawn 1" and on the right "Goals for 63. Against 12"

The photo was recently donated to the Auckland University Hockey Club by the granddaughter of Ernest Bunkall.

Ernest was born in 1885 and went to Auckland Grammar and then on to the University of Auckland to study law. He would have been about 25ish in this photo. He went away to war in 1914. On his return from the war he lived in Optoiki where he continued to play hockey.
